What is Hypnosis?
What is Hypnosis?
Simply put. “An everyday, naturally occurring powerful and positive state of mind” Its so natural that science simply cannot define what it is, or how it occurs of works. However, the medical profession can agree that it is a powerful and extremely helpful process with limitless possibilities.
Types of Hypnosis
Therapeutic Hypnosis: While in a therapy session the person usually experience a state of relaxation, while also their mind is flitting between different things, listening, noticing how comfortable they are and sometime what they have to do for the rest of the day. While in this comfortable state the Hypnotherapist will give certain suggestions that will be conducive the the clients progress.
Stage Hypnosis: This extremely powerful and entertaining process is massively misunderstood. Stage hypnosis is a rapid almost mind control like process where the Hypnotist will seemingly make people “Sleep” on command and make them carry out funny tasks. Remember, All types of Hypnosis is only effective if the client / recipient is willing and is within their own ethics. Just think, when a hypnotist makes the suggestion to someone to imagine having a shower and to re-in-act it. Everyone keeps their clothes on. The Client / Recipient is always in control and will only follow a command that they agree with and stays within their ethics.
Remember, “ALL Hypnosis is Self Hypnosis”
The Definition of Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a powerful and helpful process that is an everyday natural process with the exception that it is being guided by a Hypnotherapist. Hypnosis is a simply a trace like state which allows the sub-conscious part of the brain to be open and aware of more of the input around us. For example how many times have you been driving and your “In you own world” the radio is on but your not paying any attention. Later that day you find yourself humming / singing a song and you have no idea where you heard it of why you are singing it. The Hypnotherapist job is to allow each client to “Go into your own world” while they create a script which will allow you to live the life you want.
The therapist is able to suggest ideas, concepts and lifestyle adaptations to the patient, the seeds of which become firmly planted.
How does Hypnosis work?
Hypnosis works by simply accessing our right hand side of the brain which is the creative and non-analytical part. In everyday life suggestions are put to is from all angles, however we are able to question these as the most active and judgmental parts of the brain steps in. By using a combination of relaxation, confusion and analytic overload the hypnotherapist is able to by pass the critical facility and allow the positive suggestions to go straight into the right hand side of the brain, or subconscious. The subconscious mind like a green house, when some things is planted that you like, it is able to grow and create and new behavior or action that becomes deep routed.
The reason Hypnosis is used for things like phobias for example. If someone wants to become a non smoker, they usually just consciously think about being a non smoker, Consciously. That idea is then simple overwritten by the next conscious idea and thus the person remains smoking. The seed does not get planted, therefore the person cannot grow the idea.
What can be Treated with Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy can treat almost any psychological, emotional and physical disorder. From the obvious such as habits, phobias and compulsions to the more unknown such as blushing, bed-wetting and even medical conditions such as pain relief and pain management through to blood pressure control and even hemophilia (Blood Clotting)
